Abortion

The Right to Determine Over One’s Own Body

The topic of abortion is becoming more prominent. But why? Shouldn’t every woman have the right to do what she wants with her body? If a woman is not ready to become a mother, why must she still carry the child when the man has the option to decide?

In the 21st century, perspectives are changing drastically, but they also divide society. Some glorify an unplanned pregnancy, considering it a gift and equating abortion with killing a human being. Others believe that a woman should decide what she does with her body because she has the right to make decisions about her own body.

In essence, it is a complex topic that cannot be discussed enough.

Over the years, the following prejudices have formed:

  • Moral Condemnation: A common prejudice is the moral condemnation of women considering or undergoing abortion. Some view abortion as murder or a sin.
  • Selfishness: It is often claimed that women deciding on abortion are selfish, prioritizing their own needs over the unborn child’s.
  • Ignorance or Frivolity: Sometimes it is assumed that women considering abortion are not sufficiently informed about the consequences or make the decision lightly.
  • Irresponsibility: Another prejudice is the belief that women who unintentionally become pregnant have acted irresponsibly and should bear the consequences.
  • Health Risks: Some falsely claim that abortions are associated with significant health risks for women, although medical procedures in many countries are safely conducted.
  • Psychological Effects: It is often argued that women undergoing abortion will later experience psychological problems or guilt, although studies do not provide clear evidence for such a connection.
  • Cultural or Religious Reservations: In some cultures or religious communities, abortion is strictly opposed, leading to deeply rooted prejudices.
  • Political Instrumentalization: In some political debates, abortion is used as a controversial issue to mobilize voters or promote specific political agendas.

It is crucial to emphasize that the reasons for abortion can be diverse, and women should have the right to determine their own bodies and reproductive decisions without being stigmatized or condemned. Discussions about abortion should be based on facts and conducted respectfully.

What Every Person Wishes For

  • Right to Self-Determination
  • Empathy and Support
  • Diverse Life Circumstances (Every woman has her own unique life stories, dreams, and challenges)
  • Medical Safety
  • Psychological Well-being
  • Cultural and Religious Diversity (It is essential that the right to reproductive self-determination is universally protected and respected, regardless of cultural or religious beliefs)

In summary, women wish for decisions, experiences, and rights related to their reproductive health to be respected, acknowledged, and supported, just like for other genders. It is time for empathy, understanding, and solidarity among women and society as a whole.
